5 ways to spruce up your morning routine

I have yet to meet a woman who says she does NOT want better productivity, alertness, and overall 'umph' in her day.

There are SO many different angles to audit when it comes to a deficit in any of those areas, and likely equally as many ways to improve and increase them.

For today, we're merely going to focus on the morning routine.

I'm not going to tell you that you need to be getting up at 5am for any type of workout, so if you were holding your breath waiting for that ball to drop, go ahead and exhale, girlfriend, that's not how I roll.

5 Ways to Spruce Up
Your Morning Routine

1. Get up when your alarm goes off

When you get in the snooze button routine, you're telling your brain that deadlines, timeframes, and the day itself really don't matter. Sleep science shows us that relying on the snooze button causes you to feel foggy and more tired the rest of the day because it disrupts healthy sleep patterns.

Messing with your body's internal clock (which the snooze button does) can actually deprive you of sleep and set you up for some major health problems.

The solution - be honest with yourself and wire your brain for success. Know how much time you need, set your alarm accordingly, and get up when it goes off!

2. Get your toes on the dirt for 10 minutes

Yes, grounding is great for a mid-day decompress, AND, it's a phenomenal way to start your day. The earth is filled with electrons that our bodies crave. When we place our bare feet on the ground, we soak these electrons up through our cells - which then store them up. Then when you get a bruise or are stressed out of your dang mind, your body uses this stored-up greatness to mitigate these stressors.

3. Natural light in your eyeballs - no glasses or contacts

Paired perfectly with bare feet in the dirt. Exposure to *natural* light (aka: sunlight) impacts us both physiologically and psychologically. The list is looooong, so here's a start

increased mood
improved sleep
decreased heart rate
decreased blood pressure
decreased respiratory rate
increased tolerance for stress
strengthens immune system
increased energy
decreased inflammation

4. Nourish well

No matter the time of day you're breaking your fast (whether it's breakfast or lunch), the key is for it to nourish well to set you up for success. Thoughtful intentionality goes a long way when you pair some protein, carbs and fats together.

Of course the quality of those three is key. Go for grass-fed, pasture-raised, organic, and whole food based.

5. High-five your metabolism with 5 gulps

Hashtag, make hydrating fun again!

The Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism says,

"...drinking 500 ml of water increases metabolic rate by 30% in both men and in women. The increase in metabolic rate was observed within 10 min after completion and reached a maximum 30–40 min after water drinking. The effect was sustained for more than an hour."
For many,

"Drink more water" is too vague
"Drink one gallon each day" is overwhelming
"Down one big glass right when you wake up" can be off-putting for some

5 gulps!

Yep, count them! This method is manageable, fun and rewarding. And, of course, investing in your wellness.
